BCMF Kwawu gripper
After three iterations of trying in-house designs for an effective functional arm, the HFA-BCMF Kwawu Gripper represents our latest and most effective design, combining elements from the TR Charin Gripper and the Kwawu Arm. First printed in 2022, the key functional element is the movable thumb, which enables a gripping motion without requiring flexion or joint movement. A single Velcro strap makes it easy for recipients to put it on and remove it independently. A standout feature is the 360-degree wrist rotation capability, which allows users to adjust the hand position for various activities and angles.

“When I go outside, I feel confident with this prosthetic arm.”
Htun is a 43-year-old man who lives with his family. In 2007, his right forearm was injured in an accident and could not be saved. Since the amputation of his right arm below elbow, he faced difficulties with daily tasks such as cooking, cutting meat and taking showers. Once he received his new Kwawu Gripper prosthetic hand, he was able to complete daily tasks more easily.
“When cutting wood for firewood, I can hold it with my prosthetic hand and cut [the wood] with my left hand. When I go outside, I feel confident with this prosthetic arm. I am very thankful to all the donors and BCMF for giving me bck my confidence and a new hand,” he said

Farming accident
“I feel relieved and thankful as I can finally find some work again.”
Soe is a 54-year-old man who lives with his family in Thailand. He lost his left forearm in a farming accident in 2022. “I was called a shorty arm before receiving my prosthetic arm. I was accused of not doing as much work as before and I felt guilty and depressed that I could not earn more money. Since receiving my prosthetic arm, I can go to the market alone by bicycle and I am also able to dig using a shovel. I feel relieved and thankful as I can finally find some work again and help with chores at home with this prosthesis,” he said.
