Rehabilitation
Without rehabilitation support and clear education, many people may develop complications or long-term disability. With this in mind, BCMF's Rehabilitation Project was established in 2023 to support patients and recipients across BCMF's projects.
For recipients of 3D-printed prosthetics, the project provides upper-limb prosthetic support and teaches exercises to people who have lost a limb to help them adapt and regain strength. Wheelchair recipients are taught how to improve strength and prevent complications from long-term wheelchair use, such as pressure sores.
A member of the rehabilitation team places electrodes on a patient's leg during a bedside therapy session, while others look on and learn how the treatment works.
Meanwhile, cardiac rehabilitation is provided for patients, especially children, who receive heart surgery in Bangkok and Chiang Mai with support from BCMF's Referral Services Program. Before these patients travel for their surgeries, doctors on the rehabilitation team explain basic medical information about the heart and heart disease and how to take care of the body before and after surgery. After patients receive cardiac surgery, the team explains the procedures they underwent and any medications they received, as well as reminding them how to take care of their heart health at home, ensuring both children and their parents fully understand the instructions.
By integrating rehabilitation advice and support with other projects, BCMF encourages safe recovery and fosters independence for patients and beneficiaries.
