BCMF Patient Van Transfers

Bridging the Gap to Lifesaving Care

Many patients supported by BCMF require specialized surgeries that cannot be performed in Mae Sot due to limited medical facilities. For complex procedures, BCMF partners with hospitals in Chiang Mai and Bangkok, arranging comprehensive care that includes not only treatment, but also transportation and accommodation.

To ensure patients and their caregivers reach hospitals safely and on time, BCMF organizes dedicated patient van transfers. These long-distance trips are operated by trusted private van drivers with whom we've built strong, long-term relationships. Because many of our patients are undocumented, we've also established working ties with local police, ensuring safe passage through strict record keeping and mutual trust.

Patients referred to Chiang Mai often need multiple follow-up visits and stay at the BCMF-B.K. Kee Patient House between appointments. Those referred to Bangkok typically make a single trip for surgery and post-operative care, staying at the BCMF Bangkok Patient House during their visit.

Cost per round trip:

  • Mae Sot to Chiang Mai: ~7,000 THB / 250 USD
  • Mae Sot to Bangkok: ~9,000 THB / 300 USD

Your support helps us keep this vital link open - ensuring patients not only receive care, but also get there safely.

The Burma Children Medical Fund (BCMF) was established in 2006 in response to the increasing number of children on the Thai-Burma border who required complex medical treatment and surgery that is not available at local clinics or hospitals. Prior to BCMF being established, children who required surgery had their symptoms treated and lived either severely incapacitated lives or died prematurely as a result.
