Cosmetic hand & fingers
Since 2024, HFA-BCMF has printed cosmetic hands and fingers specifically designed for recipients with amputations at the wrist or hand-level. For these individuals, the longer prosthetic designs we offer aren't always suitable, as they often create uneven arm lengths that look unnatural and feel unpleasant. While this model doesn't feature a functional gripping mechanism like our other prosthetics, it serves an important psychological and practical purpose. Recipients report that when they go outside, wearing a cosmetic hand or finger makes them feel more complete and significantly boosts their confidence. Additionally, they provide practical value by offering additional support when gripping objects with their other hand, allowing users to stabilise items between both hands more easily.

Ti lost his left hand and three fingers on his right hand, as well as vision in his right eye, in a work injury in 2025. As a result of his injuries, many everyday tasks became extremely challenging. Simple activities such as holding a pen, using cutlery to feed himself, operating his phone, getting dressed, and participating in daily life now require assistance. In response to his challenges, he was referred to BCMF for a cosmetic hand.
Although the cosmetic hand does not allow him to grip or hold things, he shared that regaining the appearance of a hand is deeply important. “Losing my hand and fingers changed my life completely,” he said. “Everything is different now, and even simple tasks are very hard for me. Sometimes I feel sad when I look at my body, but this hand makes me feel more confident and gives me strength to keep going.”

Ya lost vision in both of his eyes and his right hand in a work injury in 2025. Ya has had to relearn how to manage daily activities using only his left hand while also navigating complete vision loss.
Ya has received a cosmetic hand from BCMF. Having a hand will help him carry objects, manage heavier items, and feel more balanced in his movements. He said, “Losing my hand was very hard, but losing my eyesight was even harder. At first, I felt very depressed and did not know how to accept my life. Even though I cannot see, having a hand again will help me move more safely, carry things, and feel more confident when I am with other people. For now, I just want to focus on my recovery and learning how to live my life again.”
