Congenital Musculoskeletal Deformities

BCMF also treats children with congenital musculal skeletal deformities including cleft lip and palette and club foot. Cleft lip and palette are caused by abnormal facial development during gestation. A cleft lip is a physical split or separation of the two sides of the upper lip and appears as a narrow opening or gap in the skin of the upper lip. This separation often extends beyond the base of the nose and includes the bones of the upper jaw and/or upper gum. A cleft palate is a split or opening in the roof of the mouth. A club foot is a congenital deformity in which the affected foot looks like it has been rotated internally at the ankle. Without treatment, people with club feet often appear to walk on their ankles or on the sides of their feet.  All of these conditions can be treated with surgery.
