Zayar Linn

Than Zaw OoWhen Zayar Linn was three months old, his mother noticed that while she was breastfeeding him he was breathing very fast. She has six other children and none of her other children had symptoms like his. When people came near the child he became very agitated and upset. Zayar Linn has a fever often and a cough and fell sick often. His mother was worried about his condition so she decided to take him to the Mae Tao Clinic. There the medic told her that the child had a heart condition and referred him to Mae Sot Hospital. They could not treat the child and have referred him to Chiang Mai. There is no way his family can afford the treatment in Chiang Mai so they need the support of BCMF.

Zayar Linn’s father and his older sister work. They do daily work in Burma. His father gets 4,000 Kyat (US$4) a day and his sister earns 3,000 Kyat (US$3) a day. His mother stays at home to mind the children. Before Zayar Linn was born his mother used to work but now that he is ill she stays home to care for him. Two of Zayar Linn’s siblings go to school. His 12-year-old brother stays home to help his mother.

Zayar Linn’s mother says that she does not have enough money for the family, let alone to pay the cost of medical treatment for her child. She is worried about money and food for her family and whether her child will get better. She is stressed that she can no longer work to earn money for the family as she has to care for Zayar Linn and this is making their family situation worse.

Zayar Linn’s mother says that she hopes that her child can get treatment as her family will be happy and her child can grow up healthy and get an education. She also hopes she can go back to work so that she can help her husband get food for the other children.
