Win Kyaw Naing
Win Kyaw Naing is a 3-year old Burmese boy with a serious heart condition. He was born in Bangkok and the doctor told his mother that he had congenital heart disease. After three days, his mother took him home. They were living in Bangkok at the time as her family is very poor and she moved there to work and send money back home to her mother in Burma. After 27 days she noticed that Win Kyaw Naing had a blue face and had difficulty breathing. The doctor told her that he would need an operation. They put him on oxygen. He has already had one operation in Bangkok but he needs another one. The hospital in Bangkok helped her pay for his first operation.
Currently Win Kyaw Naing and his mother live in Myawaddy, Burma with her older sister. He is an only child and his father lives in Bangkok. He doesn’t send them any money even though he knows his son is sick. She returned to Myawaddy in order to get treatment for Win Kyaw Naing at the Mae Tao Clinic. Her friend in Bangkok told her about the Clinic and she came here seeking help. She is not working at the moment as she has to care for her baby. Her sister’s husband is helping support her. Her younger sister paid for Win Kyaw Naing to return to Myawaddy for treatment.
Win Kyaw Naing’s mother says she feels very sad as she is in a difficult situation. Both her sisters are helping her but it is not enough. Her son cannot play and has difficulty breathing. He tires very easily and sometimes he cannot eat properly.
If Win Kyaw Naing is able to get treatment, she would like to return to her home town of Pagu, near Rangoon, to be with her family. She wants her son to go to school in Burma and she wants to look for odd-jobs to support them.
