Wai Wai Lwin
Wai Wai Lwin’s family are from Hliang Bwe in Burma. When Wai Wai Lwin was born she had a swelling about 2 inches big on her face. When she was 24 days old her parents took her to the paediatric hospital in Rangoon. They did an x-ray at the hospital and told them that the baby would need an operation when she was 6 months old. However, they could not return to the hospital for the surgery as they did not have enough money. The swelling on Wai Wai Lwin’s face continued to grow and her parents decided to try Mae Tao Clinic instead. A friend had told them about the clinic and said that the clinic would help them for free. Wai Wai Lwin’s father does odd jobs for a living, everyday he goes out and tries to find work, but he does not work everyday. If there is no work he does not get paid. The family are constantly struggling for money. Wai Wai Lwin’s mother stays at home to care for the children. There are 4 other children in the family (12 (m); 10 (f); 8 (f); 6 (f)) and they all attend school.
Wai Wai Lwin’s parents says that their life is very difficult, they can hardly afford to feed and send their children to school, let alone afford her medical treatment. They say that they will probably have to stop sending their children to school after primary school because they will not be able to afford the high school. If is very difficult for them to survive and they worry for Wai Wai Lwin’s future. They feel so sad for their daughter and hope that BCMF can help her. They hope that if their baby gets better they can send her to school to get an education so that she has an opportunity to do well in her life.
