TUE TUE: SPECIAL APPEAL

Tue Tue’s parents moved to Thailand from Burma 10 years ago to find work after he was born, he is their only child. His parents left him to stay with his grandparents at the time and he has lived with them ever since. After moving to Thailand, Tue’s Tue’s parents divorced. His mother lives in Bangkok and is remarried with two children. His father has also remarried and lives in Mae Sot on the Thai-Burma border.
Tue Tue has an Osteosarcoma, a large tumour, growing from his right shoulder. Four months ago he had an accident while playing at home in Burma. After the accident he was in a lot of pain, he went to explain to his grandparents what had happened, but they told him he would be alright and to go play. When he started to get swelling in his shoulder they realised something was wrong and his aunty took him to a clinic in Burma to get him treatment. They went to the clinic many times until they ran out of money and his shoulder was no better. Tue Tue’s aunty told him to ring his mother in Bangkok to ask for help. However, when he phoned her she told him she had no money to help and said that he would have to stay in Burma to die with his grandparents.
Two months ago, Tue Tue’s aunty brought him to Mae Sot to his father. They came to Mae Tao Clinic and the medic sent them to Mae Sot Hospital for tests, at the hospital they told them that they could not treat the tumour and that he would need to go to Chiang Mai to get treatment. His stepmother is caring for him and, with BCMF’s support, will take him to Chiang Mai to undergo treatment.
Tue Tue says that he is in a lot of pain. He is not sleeping well and he has a fever. He says that he wants to cut his arm off as he is in so much pain. We explain to him that we may have to do this and he says that he is not scared - he says he just wants the pain to stop. Despite his obvious pain (throughout the interview he is sitting cross legged and massages his arm with his feet to try and alleviate the pain), Tue Tue laughs when we ask him what he would like to do in the future if he gets better and he says that he does not know, but he says that he has not been to school since the accident and would like to go back. His stepmother says that she hopes he gets better so that he can go to school and continue his education.
If you can help Tue Tue please donate now. He will require urgent surgery and will most likely lose his arm, but we are hoping to save his life. Donations in Australia, Canada and the United States are tax deductible. Donors can also choose to donate to us through the Mae Tao Clinic bank account. Please go to the how to donate section on this website for details on how to donate or email jacquiwhelan@hotmail.com or administrator@burmachildren.org. When you make your donation please specify that it is for Tue Tue. Thank you for your support.
