Su Myat Thu
Su Myat Thu is 1 year and 6 months old. Her family live in Kaw Ka Rate in Karen State. Su Myat Thu’s mother says she has noticed her child’s health problem since birth. When Su Myat Thu was one month old she had cyanosis and difficulty breathing. She also had a cough and fever often and she looked weak and tired. Her mother needed to bring her to the clinic in Burma often, but her condition did not improve. At the clinic, the doctor told her the child had heart disease. She received some medicine in Burma but it did not help. Her symptoms have continued and she is often tired, with cyanosis and blue lips and she has clubbing on her hands and feet.Su Myat Thu’s father does daily work in Kaw Ka Rate for a living. He earns 80,000 kyat (US$80) a month. Her mother takes care of the children at home. Su Myat Thu’s mother says that they do not have enough money for the family because they need to pay for food, water, electricity, house rent and for school fees for Su Myat Thu’s older brother to go to school.
Su Myat Thu’s mother says she has never been to Mae Tao Clinic. Her friend told her about the clinic and brought her to Mae Sot. It cost her 5000 kyat (US$5) for transportation from Kaw Ka Rate to come to MTC.
Su Myat Thu’s mother says it is so difficult for her to get her child treatment because she does not have enough money. She is also stressed because she worries about her child a lot. She says she wants to see her child get better so that she can work and provide for her family and then her child can get an education.
