Saw Mu Wa
Saw Mu Wa’s mother first noticed a small swelling on his face when he was born. It started off small but then swelling increased as he got older and grew. Sometimes he gets pain in his eyes, headaches and pain in the swelling. The child never learned to speak as he is deaf. Otherwise, physically he is developing normally. He does not attend school. His mother says he cries often. Recently, he also has a very yellow discharge from his nose and sometimes it bleeds.
Saw Mu Wa’s parents do daily odd jobs for a living. They do not earn a daily wage. However, they get paid in food. When they need cash, they need to sell this food. Saw Mu Wa’s older brother (11yrs) goes to school and his younger brother (3yrs) stays with his grandmother when his parents are working.
Saw Mu Wa’s mother says that she took him to the doctor in Karen State in August but the doctor said there was nothing they could do for the child and that he would need to go to Rangoon for treatment. They could not go to Rangoon. Instead, she bought paracetamol from a shop. In their village a woman told them to come to Mae Tao Clinic and Burma Children Medical Fund (BCMF) had helped her child get an operation in Chiang Mai. She told Saw Mu Wa’s mother that they would be able to help her child.
Saw Mu Wa’s mother says that she hope her child can get better so that she can send him to school in the future.
