Min Aung
Min Aung’s family live in Kaw Ka Rate in Burma in Karen state. His mother brought him to Mae Tao Clinic last month because of his condition (he was experiencing chest pain), and the medic there gave him some medicine to take. However, his condition did not improve and the medic sent him to Mae Sot Hospital for investigation. Mae Sot Hospital had done many investigations for him, including a chest x-ray, CT scan, and biopsy. Finally the result came out of Mae Sot Hospital that they could not do anything for him. They told them that they would need to go to Chiang Mai Hospital. Min Aung’s mother says she noticed her child’s health problem two months ago. At that time, Min Aung had a mass on his right side of his chest and fever. His mother tried to get traditional medicine for him but his condition did not improve. Finally, she brought her child to the clinic in Burma. They went several times and the clinic gave him some medicine but his condition did not improve. When they want to the clinic the last time the doctor told them they would need to go to Rangoon Hospital. However, they did not go because the family did not have enough money to make the journey to Rangoon Hospital. At the same time, their family who had come to work in Thailand told them to bring their child to Mae Tao Clinic and told them the clinic would help the child for free.
Min Aung’s mother says they are farmers for a living, but they do not have their own farm. They just earn 3,000 kyat in a day, but their two older children went to Bangkok for work this year and send the family money. The two younger children go to school, and their 15 year old son helps his parents at home.
Min Aung’s mother says when she brought her child to Mae Tao clinic she needed to borrow money from other people for transportation and it cost her 10,000 kyat. She also says she is worried her child will not get better and can not be treated, because his condition is getting worse. However, she says that he does not feel any pain and tenderness and he looks quite well and eats well. He can continue to go to school, but it is so difficult for their family to get treatment because they do not have enough money and they can not afford it. She says she wants her child to get better and she hopes her child can continue to go to school and can get an education and do what ever he wants to do when he grows up.
