Chit Phyo

Chit PhyoChit Phyo’s father noticed his child’s health problem at birth.  Chit Phyo was passing urine abnormally through his penis.  They went to a clinic in Burma, where the doctor told them the child had a urinary tract infection and gave them some medicine for him to take. After twenty days, the medicine had not worked and they contacted their brother who lives in Myawaddy and he told them to bring the child to Mae Tao Clinic (MTC).  The clinic is near Myawaddy, in Mae Sot, on the Thai side of the Thai-Burma border.  They came to MTC on the 14th of May, 2009.

Chit Phyo is six years old.  His family are from Phyu in Burma. He is one of four children. His siblings are eight, four and one year and eight months. When his father brought him to Mae Tao Clinic the other children stayed with their mother in Burma.  Chit Phyo and his father traveled for two days to gets to Myawaddy on the Burmese side of the Thai-Burma border. It cost 25,000 kyat ($US25).

Chit Phyo’s father sells ice every day in Burma for a living. He earns 3,000 kyat (US$3) a day. His mother looks after their children at home. They only earn enough money to pay for food and other expenses. When his father brought Chit Phyo to MTC, he borrowed money from other people and when he returns home he will have to pay back the money.

Chit Phyo’s father says that it is so difficult for the family to get their child treatment because they do not have enough money, but he wants his child to get better so that he can continue to go to school.
