KHIN HTET HTET HTUN Aged 7

?
Khin Htet Htet Htun is 7 years old and lives with her parents, and her sister aged 2 ½ in Moe Khoung, Burma, about half an hour by bus from Mae Sot. Htet Htet’s mother works selling vegetables and her father is a bicycle tuk-tuk driver. Together they earn the equivalent of US$5 per day.

Htet Htet has a congenital heart defect and the family has known from birth that she will need an operation. Htet Htet is small for her age; she has little strength and finds it difficult to keep up with other children. She is prone to minor infections and her father often has to take time off work to look after her, missing out on valuable income. Her parents are very concerned about the future health of their daughter.

They first came to Mae Tao Clinic because they could not afford the operation in Burma and there is no access free medical aid. The doctors at Mae Tao Clinic cannot determine what treatment Htet Htet needs until she has some tests in Chiang Mai, but it will probably be open heart surgery. In order for Htet Htet to be investigated and properly treated in Thailand, she needs a sponsor.

Htet Htet attends Mae Tao Clinic on a regular basis, an expensive journey which requires careful planning and time off work. The clinic treats her minor illnesses; however there are no medicines that are effective for her heart problem. Without surgical treatment her general condition will worsen. If Htet Htet can have the operation she will be able to gain weight and grow. Her immune system will be able to fight off infections and she will be able to lead a normal, healthy life. Once she is well she will able to go to school with other children and keep up with them in the playground.

The family’s wish for Htet Htet is that she can live a full and healthy life and get a good education. She hopes that one day she may become a doctor. If they can’t get a sponsor, Htet Htet will not able to have the operation she needs, as the family will never be able to save the money required. Her health will gradually deteriorate; she will fall ill more often and is likely to die at a young age.

Child’s Dream have kindly agreed to sponsor Khin Htet Htet’s surgery
