Zin Mar suffers from a deformity on her left leg. She was born in Kya-inn-Seikgyi Township in the Karen State of Burma. When she was 6 months old, she had a very high fever followed by violent seizures. U Aung is a fifty-year-old man who came to BAMF suffering from kidney stones. He and his wife live in Win Kha Na village in Karen State, Burma. They earn their living as farmers, planting and harvesting rubber trees and have 5 children, 4 of which still live at home and help on the family’s farm. Paw is a 20 year-old single mother who came to BCMF suffering from a cardiac condition. Currently, she lives with her two year-old daughter and her parents in Noh Poe, a refugee camp on the Thai-Burma border in the Tak Province of Thailand. Nan Aye (Thyroid dysfunction)

Nan Aye is a 28 year-old woman that came to BCMF with a large goiter resulting from thyroid dysfunction. She lives in Nyi Naung Village in Karen State, Burma. Her family is originally from Mon State, however when she was a child a typhoon flooded her family’s land and they were forced to relocate to Karen State. Aung is a 34 year-old man who suffered severe burns all over his body during an acid attack. He received treatment in Burma immediately after the attack, but when he could no longer afford treatment, he came to the Mae Tao Clinic in Thailand. Aung only attended school through the third grade and currently earns about 10,000 kyat (US$10) per month working as a security guard at the market at night and 2, 000 kyat loading and unloading trucks during the day.   Ma Ni Mar is 41 years old but has felt tired and has experienced difficulty breathing since her first pregnancy 18 years ago. She never sought a diagnosis for her condition until her symptoms exacerbated 10 months ago (late 2010). Thin Thin is 18 years old. She sustained 2nd and 3rd degree burns to 42 percent of her body on Sunday 29 May 2011 around 7pm. It was a tragic accident that took place on the property where she lives with her family. Thin Thin’s younger sister had unintentionally spilt fuel on the ground near an oil lantern.
